CONTINUING EDUCATION

Pennsylvania requires 14 hours of continuing education each biennium for license renewal. For the current biennium there is no required topic. The fourteen hours may be in any of the following:

    a 3.5 hour elective course approved by the Real Estate Commission

    a 7 hour elective course approved by the Real Estate Commission

    a 7 hour mandatory course for New Agents

    an approved Broker or Appraisal course
    Take a 15 hour course, get a broker credit and meet the Continuing Ed requirement.

    If you are renewing for the first time (you were initially licensed on December 1, 2007 or later), you must complete the required continuing ed courses -- the General Module and either the Residential or Commercial Module. (These courses may also be used by any licensee for continuing ed credit.)

Note: More 7-hour courses will be added at a later date.

Agency--Whats It All About?

When agents clearly understand the differences in the types of agency, they can explain them to their customers and clients who can then make an informed choice of the types of service they are asking the agent to provide. Also the agent will be better prepared to provide the services called for in the type of agency requested.

This course instructs residential agents in the basics of commercial real estate and can aid residential agents who are contemplating expanding into the commercial arena in the decisions they must make in order to do so.

This course is designed for the Realtor to have a better understanding of the government's power of eminent domain and what benefits are available to property owners when the government uses that power.

This course presents to real estate licensees updated information on government sponsored loans--FHA, VA, PHFA and also information about FHA Reverse Mortgages.

A large part of the real estate business today is based on someone's financial disaster--the more you know about that aspect of the housing market, the more business you can do.

This module focuses on issues applicable to all salespersons and serves as the foundation for material presented in each of the two additional modules which focus on specific areas of pracice--residential and commercial.

This module is designed to help develop appropriate skills to enable the salesperson licensee to provide the highest level of professional services to consumers in residential brokerage transactions.

Mediation - The Better Way To Resolve A Dispute

This course instructs licensees regarding the advantages of alternative methods of resolving disputes in a real estate transaction. Agents and clients committed to mediation will result in fewer instances of litigation and resolution of disputes in a shorter period of time.

Mortgage Fraud And Predatory Lending: What Every Agent Should Know

Is it possible that some of our problems in the housing market today are related to mortgage fraud or predatory lending? This course, taught by a loan originator, will expand your knowledge of lending practices and types of loans available.

Risk Management - How Can You Protect Yourself?

This course instructs licensees in the ways in which risks can be reduced, shifted or otherwise controlled for them, their brokers, and their clients.

Self Defense For Realtors And Their Clients

This course is designed for the Realtor to understand security issues, problems and remedies for themselves and their clients including the client's real property while being marketed. It will require that students perform some basic techniques of self defense such as using automobile keys as a defensive weapon etc.

Taxes And How To Avoid Them

This course will provide basic tax knowledge for the real estate licensee regarding tax advantages associated with home ownership and tax requirements for the real estate practitioner.

The New Standard Agreement Of Sale

This course will provide you with the ability to understand the changes that have been made to the PAR Agreement of Sale and will help you to better explain the agreement to consumers.

3.5 Hour - Elective


Title Issues For Real Estate Agents

This course addresses the different types of title policies, the title examination process, curing title defects, the quiet title action, unsatisfied mortgages, federal tax liens, and much more. It is taught by a title attorney.

Understanding Commercial Real Estate Investments And 1031 Tax Free Exchanges

This course is designed for the real estate licensee to become more familiar with investment real estate analysis, marketing strategies and the 1031 Tax-Free Exchange for clients.
