CONTINUING EDUCATION

Pennsylvania requires 14 hours of continuing education each biennium for license renewal. For the current biennium there is no required topic. The fourteen hours may be in any of the following:

    a 3.5 hour elective course approved by the Real Estate Commission

    a 7 hour elective course approved by the Real Estate Commission

    a 7 hour mandatory course for New Agents

    an approved Broker or Appraisal course
    Take a 15 hour course, get a broker credit and meet the Continuing Ed requirement.

    If you are renewing for the first time (you were initially licensed on December 1, 2007 or later), you must complete the required continuing ed courses -- the General Module and either the Residential or Commercial Module. (These courses may also be used by any licensee for continuing ed credit.)

A large part of the real estate business today is based on someone's financial disaster--the more you know about that aspect of the housing market, the more business you can do.

Green Building Concepts

This course is designed for the real estate licensee to have a better understanding of green building concepts. It addresses sustainable building concepts, energy audits, incentives for green building, agencies and key organizations involved. It also addresses appraising, financing and selling green buildings.

Investment Property Analysis

This course will help the participant understand various investment analysis systems; understand the benefits and risks of property analysis; properly value investment properties and compare real estate with other investment options.

Listing Presentation

This course will help the participants understand agency responsibilities under various agency options; avoid overpriced and underpriced listings; increase marketing success for sellers and prepare the seller for the marketing process.

This module focuses on issues applicable to all salespersons and serves as the foundation for material presented in each of the two additional modules which focus on specific areas of pracice--residential and commercial.

This module is designed to help develop appropriate skills to enable the salesperson licensee to provide the highest level of professional services to consumers in residential brokerage transactions.

Red Flags: What Are They And What Causes Them?

This course is designed to help the real estate licensee recognize red flags and what causes them. It addresses distressed properties, vacant properties and first signs. Exterior problems, plumbing and electrical and structural red flags are discussed. In addition, environmental hazards are also addressed.

Renovation Mortgages--A Way To List And Sell More Homes

This course is designed to inform real estate salespeople about renovation mortgages. It addresses how these mortgages can be used as listing tool; how to qualify customers; helping your client to find a contractor to walk through and give estimates; types of improvements that are possible; maximum LTV.

Self Defense For Realtors And Their Clients

This course is designed for the Realtor to understand security issues, problems and remedies for themselves and their clients including the client's real property while being marketed. It will require that students perform some basic techniques of self defense such as using automobile keys as a defensive weapon etc.

3.5 Hour - Elective


Staging--It Really Helps!!

This course is designed to help the real estate licensee understand the advantages of staging in the marketing process. It explains what staging is: its components i.e. decluttering, cleaning, depersonalization, improvements, enhancements. It addresses the benefits to agents and sellers and convincing sellers to use it.

3.5 Hour - Elective


Taxes And How To Avoid Them

This course will provide basic tax knowledge for the real estate licensee regarding tax advantages associated with home ownership and tax requirements for the real estate practitioner.

7 Hour - Elective


Title Issues For Real Estate Agents

This course addresses the different types of title policies, the title examination process, curing title defects, the quiet title action, unsatisfied mortgages, federal tax liens, and much more. It is taught by a title attorney.

3.5 Hour - Elective


What Makes A Healthy House?

This course, taught by an interior designer, addresses many issues which impact "a healthy house." Examples: insulation; pre-fabrications; adhesives and sealants, wood, laminates, carpet, padding. It covers healthy air, mold, carbon dioxide and radon. It also addresses HVAC, lighting, thermal comfort and fire safety.
